We have installed SmarteScript on our pc's and the OCR command is retrieving gibberish symbols and signs. please advise?

please do the following as on some machines, ClearType which is a Microsoft  Windows feature, needs to be turned OFF for optimal OCR recognition.

a.   Right click on the desktop
b.   Select Properties
c.   Click on the Appearance Tab
d.   Click on the Effects… button
e.   Set the Effects to the following:

Another suggestion is to Rebuild the font database using the modified Ini file.
This will build a larger font database and will take some time to do so. Your system needs to have sufficient RAM in order to do this and could take over 30 mins to build the database.

To do this:

• Download the attached Textract.ini file and replace it in the SmarteScript Bin folder C:\Program Files\SmarteSoft\SmarteScript\Bin
  
  • Open SmarteScript
    Click on New icon
    On the menu bar, select Tools > Options > Utilities Settings > OCR Database Set up - Press to Set Up

This likely applies to SmarteX as well?

Is there a way to know if this has been done already?

For SmarteX. If you would like to rebuild the font database.. go to the SmarteX bin folder

1)C:\Program Files\SmarteSoft\SmarteX\Bin
2)Update the Setting within the textract.ini file (or download and replace the attached one from the post above)
3)Double click on UpdateOcrDB.exe to rebuild the font data base.
